SurfReel.com is the first site dedicated to connecting surfers around the world with each other and the surf industry. SurfReel.com's primary features are the monthly and annual video "reel" competitions where members upload personal surfing reels and submit them to sponsored monthly competitions to compete for the sponsor's product winnings. SurfReel.com generates revenue by selling advertising placements and by selling sponsorship positions for each monthly competition. Each monthly winner has the opportunity to win the annual "Purse," which is half of SurfReel.com's annual advertising profit. We have found that integrating profit sharing features into a niche social networking site to be an effective means to incentivize membership participation.
SurfReel.com launched public beta in September 2008, with the top surf industry companies as initial sponsors: Quiksilver; Vans; and Reef. SurfReel.com has experienced tremendous growth since launch, with over 250,000 page views and visitors from over 100 countries.
